In Hamburg this year, we've seen the most new businesses pop up since 2008, with a grand total of 2,912 businesses kicking off during the first half. This data comes from Statistik Nord, and shows a 2% bump compared to the same timeframe in 2022.

On the flip side, business shutdowns have spiked by 15% compared to the opening six months of 2023. This led to 1,467 closures, leaving a positive tally of 1,445 newly launched businesses.

The business establishment rate per 1,000 residents in Hamburg was 1.5. Different areas saw varying rates, ranging from 0.8 in districts like Harburg, Wandsbek, and Bergedorf, to 3.6 in Hamburg-Mitte.
