Maradona's children request transferring the late football icon's remains to a mausoleum for safety and homage purposes.

Maradona's remains are buried in a private cemetery on the outskirts of Buenos Aires, where he was given a large funeral procession in November 2020. Only relatives can access the cemetery.

The mausoleum, known as "Memorial del Diez," is behind the Casa Rosada, the Argentine government's executive branch headquarters, and will be open to the public, according to Veronica Ojeda, mother of Maradona's youngest son.

A statement submitted to the court was signed by Dalma and Gianinna Maradona as well as Ojeda on behalf of Diego Maradona Jr., stating, "All the heirs mutually agree to authorize the transfer of his remains to his next resting place (...) in a much safer location than the current one."

"So that all Argentinians and people around the world can pay tribute to our father, the greatest Argentine idol."

The relocation is expected to occur around October 30, Maradona's birthday and a former World Cup winner with Argentina, one of his attorneys informed reporters.

Maradona passed away at the age of 60 in November 2020 due to a heart attack. Napoli and Argentine national team admirers regarded him as the "football god."
