Many professionals put themselves under pressure by demanding perfection

Many professionals find themselves in the trap of perfectionism, according to a survey, causing them to put unnecessary stress on themselves. A Forsa poll released on Thursday in Hannover for the Commercial Health Insurance (KKH) found that two-thirds (65%) of working individuals feel pressured to perform their jobs perfectly due to high self-imposed expectations.

Time pressure in the workplace is almost as significant a stressor (62%), followed by the expectations of others (40%). Around a third of professionals feel stressed due to excessive overtime (36%) or high performance demands (32%).

A difficult work-life balance (27%) or a low salary (23%) both affect about a quarter of employees. Additionally, a poor team atmosphere or workplace bullying, and supervision by managers, cause stress for about one in five respondents (21% and 19%, respectively).

Overall, nearly half of professionals (43%) frequently experience high pressure and stress at work. About one in seven (15%) are under stress very often - this is true for one in five working women (20%).

The demand for perfection significantly contributes to the high self-imposed expectations that cause over two-thirds of professionals to feel pressured to perform their jobs flawlessly. Consequently, striving for perfection can lead to unnecessary stress and time pressure, often resulting in additional stressors such as excessive overtime and high performance demands.
