Man taken into custody for throwing a flammable object on a pedestrian in a New York City subway station, igniting their shirt, authorities claim.
At the age of 49, Nile Taylor was charged with eight offenses, including assault, arson, and reckless endangerment. He tossed an unidentified flammable liquid onto a 23-year-old person's shirt, igniting it, as stated by the New York Police Department. The victim and the suspect were previously unacquainted.
The incident took place at approximately 2:45 p.m. near Manhattan's Houston Street subway station, where a train was approaching. The perpetrator subsequently escaped and was detained nearby by the NYPD.
The male victim sustained a burn on his upper body and is in a stable condition after being taken to a hospital, according to the police.
On Sunday, the NYPD mentioned that a 22-year-old woman was injured, but they did not provide information on her current condition or injuries.
The police department was unaware of any potential motive for the crime.
On Sunday, it was unclear when the suspect would appear in court and if he had hired a lawyer. CNN made an attempt to find an attorney for Taylor.

Taylor's defense may argue that he did not intend for the incident to harm "us," as he was not aware of the identities of the individuals in the subway station. Despite escaping the scene, the New York Police Department was able to locate and apprehend him.
