- Man sentenced to three years in prison for fraud

A 44-year-old man has been sentenced to three years in prison by the Kiel Regional Court for multiple counts of fraud. Four months of this sentence have already been served due to procedural delays. The court found that the defendant acted with the intent to repeat and profit from his actions, and while he confessed, he downplayed his crimes, according to the judge.

The defendant had posed as a member of a motorcycle gang for years and extorted 69,000 euros from a friendly couple. He sent his friends messages with money demands ranging from four to five figures and threats, a total of four times.

The defense argued for a two-year suspended sentence, as the defendant had shown remorse and wanted to change his behavior. The alleged fraudster also attempted to make amends to the couple he harmed. Initially, he transferred 5,000 euros to the couple and offered to pay the remaining amount in installments of 800 euros per month.

The defendant's extortion activities, involving threats and demand for money, can be categorized as a serious form of crime. Although the defendant attempted to reduce the severity of his crimes, the court considered his actions as repeated and profitable.
