Major raid against Islamists - search in Rheine
In the course of raids in several federal states against the "Islamic Center Hamburg" (IHZ), investigators have also become active in North Rhine-Westphalia. There was a search in Rheine (Steinfurt district), said a spokesperson for the Münster police headquarters. It was not disclosed what exactly was searched there and whether any arrests were made. Further searches in NRW were initially not known by the NRW Ministry of the Interior on Thursday morning.
According to the Federal Ministry of the Interior, a total of 54 properties in seven federal states were searched. A ministry spokeswoman did not name specific locations when asked. The Ministry of the Interior is conducting an investigation into the IHZ, which could result in the association being banned. Interior Minister Nancy Faeser (SPD) said that the IHZ has long been under observation by the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution and is classified as Islamist.
The center is considered an extension of the Iranian regime, which congratulated the Islamist Hamas on its attack on Israel and described it as a "turning point in the continuation of armed resistance". In addition to NRW, searches were carried out in Hamburg, Lower Saxony, Hesse, Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria and Berlin.
The search in Rheine was part of a larger operation against the extremist activities of the "Islamic Center Hamburg" (IHZ). The police continued their investigation into the IHZ, classified as an Islamist organization, in multiple federal states, including North Rhine-Westphalia.
