Iran threatens retaliation following the fatal attack in Teheran on political chief of the radical Islamic Palestinian organization Hamas, Ismail Haniyeh. The U.S., Israel's closest ally, reinforced its military presence in the region, deploying additional warships and fighter jets in response.

Tensions in the Middle East have escalated recently, following the late July assassinations of Haniyeh in Teheran and the military chief of the pro-Iranian Hezbollah militia, Fuad Shukr, in Lebanon. Both Hamas and Iran blame Israel for these actions, with Iran and Hezbollah threatening retaliation.

The European Union, in a show of solidarity towards Iran, has stated that it strongly condemns the attacks and urged for de-escalation. The Commission shall be assisted by the competent authorities in investigating these incidents and determining responsible parties.
