Maria Höfl-Riesch is the best German ski racer, Marcus Höfl a well-known sports manager who worked closely with national icon Franz Beckenbauer for many years. They spent 14 years together. But now it's over. Both announced their separation together.
Three-time Alpine Olympic champion Maria Höfl-Riesch and her husband Marcus Höfl have separated after 13 years of marriage. The 39-year-old announced this via social media. "After careful consideration and with heavy hearts, we have decided to go our separate ways in the future. Unfortunately, our lives have developed in different directions, but we will remain connected both professionally and friendship," Höfl-Riesch wrote on behalf of both. "We had wonderful times together and will always remember them fondly." The 50-year-old Marcus Höfl shared the post on his own social media pages.
The two-time world champion and her husband made their love public in the spring of 2010. They had previously met on a business level, as he became her manager. The well-known sports manager had also advised the late football legend Franz Beckenbauer and counts basketball world champion Dennis Schröder among his clients.
Two days after the civil ceremony in Höfl-Riesch's hometown of Garmisch-Partenkirchen, the couple celebrated their church wedding on April 16, 2011, in Going at the foot of the Wild Kaiser, with around 200 invited guests - including Beckenbauer and other well-known sports figures. Together, they experienced Höfl-Riesch's sporting triumphs: her Olympic victories in 2010 in Vancouver (Super Combined and Slalom) and 2014 in Sochi (Super Combined), as well as her WM gold in 2013 (Super Combined). With ten Olympic and WM medals, Höfl-Riesch is the most successful German ski racer.
