- LKA wants to reduce ammunition stockpiles

The State Criminal Office Saxony-Anhalt (LKA) plans to reduce the stockpile of ammunition from the comparative weapons collection. Experts have concluded that a portion of the ammunition collection is no longer necessary, said Interior Minister Tamara Zieschang (CDU) in the Interior Committee of the state parliament.

The comparative weapons collection is used for criminalistics and training purposes. Recently, the LKA stored around 226,000 pieces of ammunition. Of these, approximately 114,000 cartridges were firing ammunition used in the creation of expert opinions. 112,000 cartridges belonged to a scientific ammunition collection. The latter is to be consumed gradually, for example, in shooting trials for the creation of expert opinions for court proceedings. In the long term, the ammunition stock is to be significantly reduced.

Members of several factions pointed out that the comparative weapons collection in Saxony-Anhalt is significantly larger compared to other states. Henriette Quade (Left) said after the committee meeting that the reduction of stocks was overdue.

The Interior Committee of the state parliament has repeatedly dealt with the comparative weapons collection of the LKA. In recent months, it has become known that many weapons and ammunition did not have the required permits or provisions. Many of these items have since been disposed of.

The debates in the Interior Committee highlight the notable size of Saxony-Anhalt's comparative weapons collection when compared to other states. Despite this, experts deem a portion of the collection's ammunition no longer necessary for criminalistics and training purposes, leading to plans for its reduction.
