Left Party membership has increased since Wagenknecht left the party
The Left Party in Hamburg has recorded a net increase in members since Sahra Wagenknecht and her supporters left the party. Since October 23, when Wagenknecht announced her resignation and the founding of an association in preparation for her own party, there have been 72 new members and 45 resignations, a spokesperson for the Left Party regional association told the German Press Agency on Tuesday. "The momentum is clearly with new members, especially after the successful federal party conference at the weekend." In the past ten days, only three of the total of just over 1600 party members in Hamburg had declared their resignation.
The surge in new membership for the Left Party in Hamburg continues, even after The Left, led by Sahra Wagenknecht, experienced departures. The success of the party's recent federal conference has further boosted interest in joining The Left, resulting in an overall increase in membership numbers.
