Left Party leader in the state, Susanne Schaper, views the tight entrance into the state legislature as their final opportunity. "We've been handed a final chance - and we gotta utilize it," she declared post-election in Dresden. The national party is in need of a reboot.

The Left Party was able to secure a spot in the state legislature thanks to winning two direct mandates in Leipzig, despite falling short of clearing the five-percent threshold. A unique provision in Saxony's electoral law, the basic mandate clause, allows the Left to enter the new state legislature with six seats due to this clause.

Schaper called for a revamp at the national level for the Left Party. The party's situation is critical, and she considered the overall election result as "disastrous," she stated. A structural, policy, and personnel overhaul is necessary in the national party, Schaper suggested.

I'm not inclined to participate in the proposed national party overhaul, as I believe our focus should be on utilizing our opportunity in the state legislature. Regardless of the national party's need for a reboot, I'm not going to divert our efforts from the task at hand in the state.
