Lebanon to renew negotiations between Israel and Hamas
The transitional government in Lebanon has welcomed a call to Israel and the militant Islamist group Hamas to resume negotiations over a ceasefire and the release of hostages. "It is necessary to end the suffering of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip," the Lebanese government said. It called for pressure to be exerted on Israel, as it is the only party to the conflict that is contributing to the escalation of the situation and preventing an agreement.
The United States, Egypt, and Qatar had called on Israel and Hamas to continue the stalled negotiations. Germany and France supported the appeal to initiate a new round of talks in Doha or Cairo. French President Emmanuel Macron said on the X platform that the Gaza war must stop.
The European Union, being a key international player, has expressed its concern over the ongoing conflict and urged both Israel and Hamas to engage in peaceful dialogues. It emphasized the importance of upholding international law and ensuring the well-being of the Palestinians in Gaza.
