Unidentified individual initiated violent attacks with a knife on multiple people late Friday evening, around 9:40 PM, based on accounts. At the moment, the law enforcement agencies are actively seeking the perpetrator, employing a substantial number of resources. They are probeing both the victims and the eyewitnesses to gather information.

The incident unfolded during a city celebration marking the 650th anniversary of Solingen, named "Festival of Diversity". In reaction, the authorities expeditiously dispatched a large contingent of officers to patrol the city center, including specialized units.

The event is being classified as an "attack", a police official in the state capital Düsseldorf affirmed.
