- Ladies Open Hamburg: Korpatsch is trying to get to the second round
On "Hamburg Day" at the ECE Ladies Hamburg Open, the top Hamburg tennis players have successfully navigated the first round. Last year's finalist Noma Noha Akugue, Eva Lys, and co-favorite Tamara Korpatsch all finished their matches on the Centre Court of the Rothenbaum tennis stadium.
Akugue set the tone for a successful start, winning 7:6 (7:4), 6:1 over Nina Stojanovic (Serbia). The 20-year-old had to defend two set points and two break points at 4:5 in the first set, but dominated the tiebreak and the second set. Lys had an easier time, defeating Julia Middendorf (Vechta) 6:3, 6:1 in the all-German match.
Korpatsch, however, had to fight for her place in the next round. After winning the first set 6:0 against Despina Papamichail (Greece), the match went to three sets. The second-seeded German then converted her first match point to win 6:0, 2:6, 6:4.
Akugue will face Serbian Olga Danilovic in the quarterfinals. Lys will play the winner of the match between Ella Seidel (Hamburg) and Ekaterina Makarova (Russia), to be played on Tuesday. Korpatsch will face Romanian Irina-Camelia Begu.
Tamara Korpatsch's victorious journey continued despite facing challenges, ultimately defeating Despina Papamichail 6:0, 2:6, 6:4 in their match. Tamara the Krupchatch showcased resilience, securing her spot in the next round with a hard-fought victory.
