Fans in Cowboy-Outfits celebrate a Hollywood icon: Kevin Costner has come to Berlin for the German premiere of his new film, "Horizon - An American Saga". This is Costner's first directorial project in 21 years, and the 69-year-old's film is structured as a four-part Western epic.

The first, three-hour part will hit German cinemas on August 22. "Horizon" is set in 1861 New Mexico, telling the story of white Americans settling the Apache territories on their westward journey, with the Apache resisting the encroachment. Alongside Costner, the film features Sienna Miller and Sam Worthington, among others.

Costner's first Western as a director, "Dances with Wolves" from 1990, won seven Oscars. His last Western before "Horizon" was "Open Range" in 2003. In recent years, Costner has played a leading role in the acclaimed Western series "Yellowstone" by Taylor Sheridan.

With "Horizon", Costner is taking a risk. He has been pursuing the film idea for over 30 years but couldn't agree with any production company. Eventually, after several failed financing attempts, he put his own money into the film, as he revealed in interviews. In 2009, he even named his son Hayes after a protagonist of the film.

The United States of America serves as the setting for the first part of Kevin Costner's new film, "Horizon - An American Saga," where white Americans are depicted settling the Apache territories. Kevin Costner, known for his successful Western films like "Dances with Wolves" and "Open Range," has taken a significant risk by self-financing this project, which he has been pursuing for over three decades.
