She was a support for Katie Holmes (45) after her split from Tom Cruise (62): Now, their daughter is taking flight. Eighteen-year-old Suri Cruise is heading off to college, and her mother is speaking openly about the experience in an interview with "Town & Country" magazine.
Holmes, who is typically private, gave the interview to promote her Broadway show, "Our Town," and discussed her feelings as a mother. "I'm proud of my daughter. Of course, I'll miss the closeness, but I'm really proud of her and I'm happy," said the ex-wife of Tom Cruise, from whom she famously divorced in 2012.
Reflecting on Suri's first days at college, Holmes recalled her own student days at Columbia University. "I remember that age, that time of beginnings. It's exciting to learn about yourself, and I loved that time," she said.
It's unlikely that Suri will follow in her mother's footsteps and attend Columbia. A few weeks ago, she was seen wearing a Carnegie Mellon University sweatshirt in a TikTok video, suggesting she may attend the private research university in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
What will Suri Cruise study?
Rumors suggest that Suri is artistically inclined, but Holmes hasn't confirmed whether her daughter plans to study fashion. As always, Holmes keeps her and her daughter's private lives out of the public eye.
"Mission: Impossible" star Tom Cruise, who also has daughter Isabella (31) and son Connor (29) with Nicole Kidman (57), reportedly plays a minimal role in Suri's life. For her high school graduation in June, Suri used "Suri Noelle" instead of "Suri Cruise," according to a "Los Angeles Times" article. Noelle is her mother's middle name. Cruise was spotted at a Taylor Swift (34) concert instead of attending the graduation ceremony.
Despite Tom Cruise's minimal involvement in Suri's life, Katie Holmes expressed her pride in her daughter's college venture, saying, "I'm proud of my daughter, and I'm happy." Additionally, Suri Cruise, following in the footsteps of her mother's college days, is rumored to be considering Carnegie Mellon University as her academic destination.
