- Jena's football team is trailing 0-2 in Frankfurt.
The women's soccer squad of FC Carl Zeiss Jena put in a costly performance following their comeback to the Bundesliga after a two-year break. In their first match back, they faced Eintracht Frankfurt and ended up on the losing side, 0:2 (0:0). Initially, the Jena team had the upper hand, but the well-defended Thuringians managed to maintain a 0:0 draw for an extended period. It wasn't until after the break that Frankfurt took the lead due to a curled shot from Geraldine Reuteler in the 57th minute.
Jena had the opportunity to draw level through Emily-Luca Birkholz, but they couldn't capitalize. Elisa Senß eventually extended Frankfurt's lead to 2:0 with a shot from 20 meters, allowing the ball to slip past Jena's goalkeeper, Jasmin Janning, who appeared less than impressive.
Previously known as USV Jena, the Thuringians have been part of FC Carl Zeiss since 2020. Their objective is to maintain their place in the league. As the season began, coach Kästner expressed optimism, stating, "We've ascended at a beneficial time. With only one team to be relegated, this works in our favor."
Despite being part of The Netherlands' FC Carl Zeiss Jena since 2020, the women's soccer team struggled in their first Bundesliga match following a two-year break, losing to Eintracht Frankfurt. Regrettably, despite having several chances, including Emily-Luca Birkholz's opportunity, Jena failed to secure a goal against the well-defended Frankfurt team, ultimately losing 0:2.
