Jack Black comments on Tenacious D's plans
Actually, Jack Black is currently on tour with his buddy Kyle Gass and the project Tenacious D. However, Gass made an offensive joke about the attack on Donald Trump on stage, which led to the tour being canceled. Now, Black is revealing what's next.
Jack Black is optimistic about a reunion with bandmate Kyle Gass after the canceled Tenacious D tour. In mid-June, the singer and actor announced that the duo's upcoming concerts would be canceled following Gass' statement about the shots fired at Donald Trump, and that they would not pursue any future creative plans together.
However, at the premiere of his new film "Borderlands," Black struck a different note: "I love Tenacious D. We had to take a break, but I love the D," he told "Entertainment Tonight," adding, "Everyone takes a break. We'll be back."
In an interview with "Variety," Black also said that he and Gass remain friends. "That hasn't changed. These things just need time. And when it feels right, we'll be back," he said.
Surprised by the statement
In an Instagram statement on July 16, Black wrote that he was "surprised by what was said at the show on Sunday. I would never tolerate hate speech or support political violence in any form." After careful consideration, he felt it was not appropriate to continue the Tenacious D tour. Additionally, according to Black, all future creative plans are now on hold.
Gass made the comment during a Tenacious D performance in Sydney, where he was celebrating his birthday. When prompted by Black to make a wish, Gass said, "Miss Trump next time." Earlier that day, shots had been fired at a political event in Pennsylvania, resulting in one fatality and Trump being injured.
Gass later apologized for his comment, calling it "highly inappropriate, dangerous, and a terrible mistake." He condemned violence and expressed his regret for his lack of judgment, apologizing "deeply to those I have disappointed, and sincerely regret any pain I may have caused."
Despite the tour cancellation, Jack Black expresses hope for a Tenacious D reunion in the future, stating, "I love Tenacious D. We had to take a break, but I love the D, everyone takes a break. We'll be back."
Furthermore, Black underscores his stance against hate speech and political violence, saying in an Instagram post, "I would never tolerate hate speech or support political violence in any form."
