Israeli military forces fatally shoot fellow soldiers.
Hamas continues to pose a threat in the northern region of the Gaza Strip, as conflicts continue to unfold. The Israeli military unfortunately suffered a devastating mistake that resulted in the loss of five of their own soldiers.
The Israeli army announced that five of its soldiers were killed by friendly fire while engaged in fighting in Gaza on Wednesday. Three more soldiers were also severely injured. An army spokesman verified reports that the soldiers had been accidentally shot at by their own troops. No additional information was provided.
Late reports from Israel suggest that Israeli tanks mistakenly targeted a building in the Jabalia refugee area, where the soldiers were stationed. They thought they were under attack from armed Palestinians and responded with shellfire. The "Jerusalem Post" added that these armored units were under immense pressure due to being hit with multiple anti-tank grenades during clashes with extremist Palestinians. This caused them to seal all viewing slits and the upper hatch of the tanks for protection.
Israel: Hamas is re-establishing its forces
In recent days, conflict has erupted again in northern Gaza. The Israeli army representative stated that Hamas was attempting to "rebuild its military capabilities" in this area. The Israeli military previously announced that it had dismantled Hamas' command structures in the region several weeks ago.
The army disclosed that 626 Israeli soldiers have died and approximately 3,500 have been injured due to the hostilities in the Gaza Strip since the commencement of the conflict on October 7, 2018. The war was ignited by a heinous attack by terrorists affiliated with Hamas and other groups, which claimed over 1,200 innocent lives in Israel. In response, Israel took drastic military action in the Gaza Strip, leaving over 35,200 Palestinians dead according to the Hamas-controlled health authority. However, this figure, which is difficult to verify independently, doesn't differentiate between civilian and fighter losses.
