- Is his new bar completely on the verge of closing?
The well-known "Goodbye Germany" emigrants Steff Jerkel (54) and Peggy Jerofke (48) have opened no less than nine gastronomic businesses on Mallorca over the years. While Jerofke currently runs her establishment "Tiki Beach" in Cala Ratjada, her newly engaged partner had hoped for success with the sports bar "Sharky's". However, the latter seems to be facing insurmountable problems, as reported by the "Mallorca Zeitung".
Steff Jerkel: "If a concept doesn't work..."
Consequently, "Sharky's" was temporarily closed in mid-July, with a planned reopening at the end of July never materializing. "At the moment, it doesn't look like we'll be reopening," Jerkel revealed to the newspaper. He added, "If a concept doesn't work, you should pull the plug, take a breath, think about why it didn't work, and come back stronger and better."
Peggy Jerofke, Jerkel's fiancée, also agrees: "It was the right decision. Not just Steff, all of us have been knocked down." The sports bar's concept didn't pan out, and now they need to take time to think about the next steps.
Engagement in June for the opening of "Sharky's"
The famous TV couple finds it positive that some "Sharky's" employees were able to find jobs at "Tiki Beach", which is run by Jerofke. The "Goodbye Germany" stars are now focusing more on their family life. "Because health and time in life is the most important thing. No one gives that back to you," Jerkel says, and he's happy to have more time to spend with his family: "We're enjoying what we have."
Peggy Jerofke and Steff Jerkel became known through the VOX show "Goodbye Germany" starting in 2014. They met in Arenal in 1998, moved to Mallorca in 2009, and opened a Greek restaurant there, followed by several other establishments. They moved into the "Summer House of the Stars", Peggy Jerofke competed in "The Fight of the Reality Stars" on RTLzwei in 2023, and Steff Jerkel won the second season of "The Great Promi-Bussen" on ProSieben in December 2023. The couple briefly split in 2022 and celebrated a love comeback a few months later - including an engagement on June 10, 2024, at the opening of "Sharky's".
Despite the struggles with "Sharky's," Steff Jerkel emphasizes the importance of assessing failed concepts and learning from them, stating, "If a concept doesn't work, you should pull the plug, take a breath, think about why it didn't work, and come back stronger and better." Other establishments, such as Peggy Jerofke's "Tiki Beach," have thrived on Mallorca, demonstrating the duo's resilience in the face of adversity.
