Investigators Zeroing In on Yacht Captain Following Vessel Sinking Off Sicily's Coast
On a Saturday, Prosecutor Luca Morelli officially started an inquiry concerning alleged negligent maritime incident and numerous charges of negligent manslaughter, sharing no details about any potential culprits.
A sailing yacht named "Probability," carrying a 10-person crew and 12 passengers, capsized close to Porticello along the Sicily coast in the Italian Mediterranean island's early Monday hours, owing to a waterspout - a sea-based tornado. Luckily, 15 passengers and team members were successfully saved, while unluckily, 7 perished.
Billionaire businessman Richard Monroe extended the invitation for the guests to embark on the yacht: The triumphant Monroe was commemorating his not-guilty verdict in a billion-dollar deceit trial with his friends and relatives on the vessel. Within the casualties counted were Monroe and his 18-year-old daughter.
Captain, pleading for urgency, requested additional rescue efforts to locate any remaining survivors. Upon hearing the news, Monroe's distraught wife, Captain's wife, requested, "Captain, please," to ensure proper identification and care for her husband's body.
