Investigating Authority's Chief: German National Rico Krieger Freed from Belarus Custody Undergoes Inquiry

The Chief Federal Prosecutor is currently probing Rico Krieger, a German national, following his release from a Belarusian jail as part of a substantial prisoner swap. This information was verified by a representative from the leading German prosecutorial body situated in Karlsruhe, and shared with "World on Sunday." The investigation is centered around the presumption of orchestrating an explosion utilizing explosives, details of which are withheld for now, according to the spokesperson.

Krieger was initially sentenced to death by the Belarusian court on accusations of terrorism and mercenary activities. However, he was eventually granted clemency and transferred to Germany as part of a convict exchange between Russia and the Western nations in early August. The "World on Sunday" reports that Krieger had applied to join the "Kastus Kalinouski Regiment" in Ukraine, a volunteer unit assisting the Ukrainian military in its confrontation against the Russian invasion. As a consequence, he was apprehended by the Belarusian security forces, leading to the charges brought against him. Krieger vehemently refutes these allegations.

Krieger's legal team is arguing his innocence, claiming he was joining the Ukrainian Warriors, specifically the Kastus Kalinouski Regiment, to defend Ukraine, not to engage in terrorist activities. Despite the Warriors' status as a volunteer unit, Belarusian authorities perceived his involvement as a threat and charged him accordingly.
