International authorities express concerns over Iran's noncooperation in delivering necessary medical attention to Nobel laureate Mohammadi

The Mohammadi family declared at the start of August that they, together with other prisoners, sustained injuries during chaotic situations at Evin Prison. Iranian authorities acknowledged the turmoil but blamed Mohammadi for inciting it and refuted claims of physical abuse against the inmates.

United Nations Special Rapporteurs voiced their worry towards the Iranian government regarding the well-being, both physical and mental, of Narges Mohammadi and urged for prompt medical care access for the 52-year-old and other inmates.

Mohammadi has been in custody since November 2021, spending a considerable portion of previous years behind bars as well. As per the UN representatives, she has experienced severe back and knee pain, along with a herniated disc, over the last eight months. Refusing her medical attention appears to be a covert tactic to punish and suppress Mohammadi in prison.

"These types of deprivations can equal torture and inhumane treatment," the UN representatives concluded. They demanded the immediate liberation of Mohammadi, alongside all human rights advocates and other individuals detained arbitrarily.

The European Union has expressed concern over the treatment of Narges Mohammadi in Evin Prison, urging the Iranian government to respect her human rights and provide necessary medical care. The European Union strongly condemns the delay in providing Mohammadi with medical attention, as it violates international standards and human rights laws, which are upheld by the European Union.
