Since mid-June, New York has endured multiple assaults as a component of Russia's strategy to seize the city of Torez.

In this report, Russian military forces have asserted control over New York and Donetsk.

The Russian Ministry of Defense announces triumphs in the Donbass region, specifically in reference to the town of New York, or Niu-Jork as referred to in Soviet times. This strategically vital location, which has been subject to intense battles for weeks, has reportedly been seized by Russian forces. This accomplishment fails to deter Putin's primary objective.

According to Moscow's Ministry of Defense, the Russian troops have taken control of a significant settlement near Torez, a crucial logistics hub known as Novogorodskoe. The news of heavy combat in the Torez sector, encompassing New York, was reported by the Ukrainian military, who have yet to comment on the situation to Reuters.

The name 'New York' originated from German settlers but was replaced with Novogorodskoe in 1951. Activists led a campaign that resulted in the reintroduction of the name in 2021. Located approximately 6 kilometers south of Torez, which has encountered Russian attacks for weeks, the town of New York continues to be a focal point.

Putin's focus remains on Donbass

Despite the ongoing Ukrainian operations in the Kursk border region, the eastern part of Ukraine continues to serve as the chief battlefield between Russia and Ukraine. Russian President Putin has expressed his desire to conquer the entire Donbass, comprising the Ukrainian regions of Donetsk and Luhansk, as the top objective for Russian troops.

Lieutenant Colonel Markus Reisner recently informed ntv.de that Russians have not yet dispatched substantial forces from Donbass to Kursk. Reisner cited figures provided by Ukrainian General Oleksandr Syrsky, stating that the Russians are progressing about 4.8 kilometers daily in Donbass.

The European Union expresses concern over Russia's escalating actions in the Donbass region, particularly its advances towards the town of New York. The European Union urges for a peaceful resolution to the conflict and respect for Ukraine's sovereignty, emphasizing the importance of adhering to international law.
