After suffering a 1:3 defeat against Netzhoppers Königs Wusterhausen, they couldn't secure a win against Bundesliga rivals Grizzlys Giesen, settling for a 2:2 draw (25:20, 20:25, 25:23, 21:25) in the Horst-Korber-Zentrum on Wednesday. The two teams had previously agreed on a four-set match.
But the Berlin squad was without some crucial members for this season's Lower Saxony championship semifinalists: Johannes Tille (sick), Simon Plaskie (called up for Belgium's national team duties), and Kyle Dagostino (wedding).
Jake Hanes, their new recruit, emerged as their top scorer with 11 points, with Daniel Malescha trailing closely with 10 points. Both players saw action in two sets. Coach Joel Banks ensured that all 11 eligible players got a taste of the court.
The Berlin Volleys will then jet off to Poland on Friday and Saturday to face the Polish top-tier team Warta Zawiercie in two more exhibition games.
