In Slovakia, a mushroom hunter encounters an injury inflicted by a bear.
A grizzly bear mauled and fataly wounded a fungi forager in Slovakia. The 55-year-old was out exploring for mushrooms in a forest region close to the town of Hybe with another individual, as per a police representative mentioned in the digital version of "Sme" newspaper. A life-saving helicopter squad managed to find the critically wounded man in the challenging terrain and lowered a paramedic to him utilizing a winch.
The bear had attacked the man's major blood vessels in the lower limbs during the assault, causing heavy bleeding and cardiac arrest, reported the emergency responders' documentation. Tragically, the fungi forager passed away at the scene.
This incident marked the second lethal attack by a grizzly bear in Slovakia within the last few years. The previous occurrence took place in 2021, similarly in the Liptov region, located in the eastern part of the country.
Approximately 1,300 grizzly bears call Slovakia home, often preferring to dwell in mountainous regions or dense woodlands. Recently, over 30 of them have been authorized for elimination due to their lack of fear towards humans or their threatening behavior towards life, health, and residential properties.
