How to End Your Amazon Prime Membership Once Prime Day is Concluded
Amazon's major sale of the year, Prime Day, is coming in July, but expect some early discounts beforehand, as in past years. To get the most out of the event, you'll need to be an Amazon Prime member. If you sign up for a Prime account solely for Prime Day and later decide you don't want to pay for a continuous membership, make sure to cancel your subscription before your free trial ends.
How to terminate your Amazon Prime subscription
You can cancel your Prime membership through your browser by logging into your Amazon account. Amazon offers an "End Your Prime Membership" button on its support page to start the process, or you can follow these steps:
- Click on "Account & Lists" (under your name) in the top right corner of the navigation bar.
- Scroll down to "Manage your data" and click "Close Your Amazon Account."
- At the bottom of the next page, check the "Yes, I want to permanently close my Amazon Account and delete my data" box. You might be prompted to complete a cancellation survey, which you can bypass.
- Hit "Close My Account."
Note that Amazon asks for several clicks to finalize your cancelation, creating chances for you to reconsider your decision.
End your Prime membership on mobile
You can also cancel your Prime subscription using the Amazon Shopping app. To do this:
- Launch the app and tap the profile icon at the bottom and center of the navigation bar (the silhouette of a person icon).
- Select "Your Account" at the top and navigate to "Manage Your Data" before tapping the "Close Your Amazon Account" button.
- Scroll to the bottom of the next page and mark the "Yes, I want to permanently close my Amazon Account and delete my data" box.
- Click "Close My Account" in the end.
Important points to consider when ending your Prime membership
As mentioned above, shutting down your account instantly ends your Prime access. Amazon also enables you to temporarily cease your perks and billing instead of cancelling them completely. Your Amazon account remains active – you just won't have access to Prime benefits.
Lastly, if you have other subscriptions linked to your Prime account, these will end when your billing is finished. Additionally, if you registered for Prime via the Android mobile shopping app or the Prime Video Android app, you'll have to manage your subscription through Google Subscriptions.

Despite ending your Amazon Prime membership, you might still need to manage any linked subscriptions, especially if you registered for Prime via the Android mobile shopping app or the Prime Video Android app. This requires managing your subscription through Google Subscriptions. Additionally, if you canceled your Prime membership after signing up specifically for Prime Day, remember that you won't receive a refund for the money spent on the membership during that short period.
