Hitler salute against Jewish team: charges brought
A young man who threatened a German-Jewish soccer team in Berlin and gave the Hitler salute has been charged. The 18-year-old was a spectator at a soccer match between the CFC Hertha A-juniors and TuS Makkabi on January 30, 2023, the public prosecutor's office announced on Tuesday. During half-time, he allegedly gave the Hitler salute with his right arm, called the TuS Makkabi players and their fans "scumbags" and threatened to burn an Israeli flag. The indictment accuses him of threatening and using signs of unconstitutional organizations.
The incident highlights the concerning rise of extremism in German soccer, with this young man facing charges not only for threatening behaviors but also for using symbols of an unconstitutional organization. This case underscores the need for strict processes to address and prosecute such crime, protecting the rights and safety of all teams and fans.
