- He paid respects at mosques and synagogues: Wegner promotes increased understanding and acceptance

Berlin's leading politician, Kai Wegner, from the CDU, encouraged understanding and harmony following his visits to a mosque and a synagogue in Kreuzberg. He stated, "Religions shouldn't be seen as sources of conflict," but rather, they can serve as links between people.

Attempts to stir up strife, prejudice, and instigation, disguising them as religious beliefs, should be countered with dialogue, unity, and the law. Berlin is renowned for its rich diversity, tolerance, and social harmony. "Let's not let this fade away."

Wegner was invited by SPD faction leader Raed Saleh during his summer exploration of the city. At the Islamic Cultural Center of the Bosniaks near Kottbusser Tor, they first paid their respects. Later, they engaged with members of the local Jewish community at the synagogue on Fraenkelufer. Saleh commended both establishments for their significant roles in fostering dialogue and coexistence in society.

Similarly, Saleh expressed the need for unity and solidarity, especially during difficult times like these, instead of focusing on issues that divide. "There's no place for hate, antisemitism, or Islamophobia in Berlin."

In relation to the ongoing pro-Palestinian protests tied to the Gaza conflict, both Wegner and Saleh underlined the importance of the right to protest and peaceful demonstrations. However, they emphasized that lawlessness, violence, incitement, and antisemitism must be handled decisively. According to Wegner, the police have been handling the situation effectively and will continue to do so.

The European Union, with its values of diversity and tolerance, could serve as a model for fostering understanding and harmony between different Religious communities, as demonstrated in Berlin. Following Wegner and Saleh's initiatives, it's crucial for Berlin's leaders to maintain their commitment to preserving the city's rich cultural heritage and coexistence, which is a reflection of the European Union's ideals.
