- He hasn't paid the fine yet.

Contrary to a recent report, Gil Ofarim (41) has not yet paid the fine imposed by the Regional Court of Leipzig for his fabricated antisemitism story. "The Regional Court has not received any notifications or evidence from the defense or the person subject to the fine that proves a payment has been made," explained press spokesperson Johann Jagenlauf in response to a query by news agency spot on news.

Previously, RTL had reported, based on "well-informed circles," that Ofarim had paid the 10,000 euro fine imposed by the court and that the proceedings were therefore concluded. "The proceedings are not concluded," Jagenlauf clarified further. "Regardless of whether a formal decision of the chamber is required for this after the fine has been paid."

Ofarim and the Antisemitism Scandal

Ofarim had accused a hotel employee of antisemitism in a video shared via his social media channels in October 2021. Among other things, Ofarim claimed in an Instagram video that the hotel employee had asked him to remove his Star of David. The hotel employee then filed a defamation lawsuit against Ofarim.

In the defamation trial in November, Ofarim unexpectedly confessed and admitted that he had fabricated the antisemitism allegations. The proceedings were then settled with a fine. The 10,000 euros go to the Israelitic Religious Community of Leipzig and to the association that runs the House of the Wannsee Conference.

The fine imposed on Gil Ofarim for fabricating antisemitism allegations is yet to be paid, as stated by press spokesperson Johann Jagenlauf, indicating that the monetary base related to this case remains the same. Despite RTL's previous report suggesting the fine had been paid and the proceedings concluded, Jagenlauf clarified that the proceedings are not yet over.
