Harris's running mate Walz attacks Trump at campaign event

Democratic U.S. presidential candidate Kamala Harris appeared publicly for the first time with her vice presidential candidate Tim Walz. Walz targeting the Republican candidate for president Donald Trump, accused him at the campaign event on Tuesday (local time) to 'sow chaos and division'....

Donald Trump - He sees the world differently. He knows nothing about serving the nation because he's too busy serving himself," said Walz in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, at a joint campaign appearance with Harris before around 10,000 people. Trump had driven the economy into ruin.

Moreover, the number of violent crimes had increased under the Republican, said Walz, who is the governor of the state of Minnesota. Not even counting the crimes that Trump himself had committed, Walz continued to laughter and cheers.

Harris said at the event, "we are the underdogs in this race." "This campaign - our campaign - is not just a fight against Donald Trump. Our campaign - this campaign - is a fight for the future," the 59-year-old continued.

"We're fighting for a future where we defend our most basic freedoms," said Harris. She had been searching for a partner who could help build this better future. A leader "who unites our nation and moves us forward. A champion for the middle class, a patriot who, like me, believes in the extraordinary promise of America," said Harris. She was there today because she had found such a leader in Walz, she continued.

Also present at the campaign event was the governor of Pennsylvania, Josh Shapiro. Previously considered a favorite to be Harris' running mate, Shapiro praised Walz in Philadelphia.

The 60-year-old Walz is known as a politician who, with his simple language, connects with voters without academic education, while also representing liberal positions. The former National Guard member, teacher, and football coach represents liberal positions on abortion and cannabis. He also advocates for stricter gun buyer checks.

That the event took place in the state of Pennsylvania was no coincidence. Pennsylvania was one of the states that helped President Joe Biden win the election in 2020. The campaign event in Philadelphia marked the start of a multi-day tour through the particularly contested and decisive states of the USA.

Meanwhile, attacks from Trump's Republicans came against Walz. Trump's campaign team described Walz as a "dangerous left-wing extremist." Trump's vice-presidential candidate, J.D. Vance, said Walz's record was "a joke."

The Philadelphia crowd erupted in cheers as Harris praised Walz, highlighting his ability to connect with voters despite lacking academic education, yet holding liberal positions on key issues like abortion and cannabis. Furthermore, the choice of Philadelphia for the campaign event was strategic, as Pennsylvania played a crucial role in Biden's 2020 election victory.
