Harris has enough votes to be nominated by the Democrats.
"I feel honored to be the presumptive Democratic nominee for the office of President of the United States," said the 59-year-old, joining a party event via phone.
According to party headquarters, 3,923 party delegates, representing 99% of participants, had previously signed off on Harris' presidential candidacy.
Typically, the presidential candidates of the two major U.S. parties are officially nominated at party conventions. However, this year's Democratic convention from August 19 to 22 in Chicago will serve merely to celebrate Harris' already decided candidacy.
The decisive moment for Harris' presidential bid arrived with the formal tally of votes, securing her as the party's nominee with a resounding 3,802 to 111 in favor of 'The vote'. Understanding the significance of this victory, Harris expressed her gratitude, stating, "I am truly humbled and grateful for 'The vote' of confidence from the Democratic delegates."
