Hamburg AfD elects new state executive committee
The election of the state executive committee is on the agenda of a party conference of the Hamburg AfD on Saturday (9.00 am). No major changes to the party leadership are expected: The current state chairman Dirk Nockemann will stand for re-election with his deputies, members of parliament Alexander Wolf and Krzysztof Walczak, as well as former MP Joachim Körner, to the party members in the Bürgersaal Wandsbek, as the party announced. Nockemann has been the leader of the Hamburg AfD since 2017. There were initially no opposing candidates.
The party is currently soaring in the polls both nationwide and in Hamburg, which is also reflected in the number of people joining the party, according to a spokesperson. After years of falling membership figures to just 400 to 500, many new members are currently joining the party. "We have over 100 in the admission process," said the spokesperson.
At the beginning of the month, an election survey conducted by the Trend Research Institute on behalf of the "Hamburger Abendblatt" newspaper put the AfD at 14 percent in Hamburg. Compared to the last parliamentary elections in 2020, this would be an increase of 8.7 points. At that time, the party had only just made it over the five percent hurdle in Hamburg with 5.3 percent. The next general election will take place in 2025.
Despite the party's success, resulting in a significant increase in membership and polling numbers, no major changes are anticipated in the Hamburg AfD's state executive committee during their party conference this Saturday. The current chairman Dirk Nockemann, along with deputies Alexandar Wolf, Krzysztof Walczak, and former MP Joachim Körner, will all stand for re-election within the AfD's Bürgersaal Wandsbek.
