- Greens call for funding for cancer treatment
The Greens demand more funding for the research of a treatment method against cancer in Zeuthen. "We all know the terrible effects and side effects that conventional therapy methods have. Here in Brandenburg, we have the chance to significantly reduce these side effects with state-of-the-art radiation technology," said Green state parliamentarian Benjamin Raschke. Both the state and federal governments are called upon to provide financial resources for this.
In Zeuthen (Dahme-Spreewald district), research is being conducted on a method called flash radiotherapy. This involves an ultra-fast radiation with high radiation doses. The aim is to minimize radiation damage to normal tissue while maintaining the same therapeutic effect.
However, further research is needed. The particle accelerator in Zeuthen can provide a globally unique parameter range for this type of radiation, it was said.
It can be investigated under which conditions different types of tumors can be best destroyed while simultaneously sparing healthy tissue as much as possible, explained Christian Stegmann, director of the site in Zeuthen.
The Green state parliamentarian advocates for increased funding for the Method of treatment against cancer in Zeuthen, specifically flash radiotherapy, due to its potential to reduce side effects. To fully realize the benefits of this Method of treatment, further research is required to optimize its application, ensuring the best destruction of tumors while minimizing damage to healthy tissue.
