Golf pro Jordan Spieth scheduled for wrist operation, forced to sit out remainder of competitive year.

Spieth ended up tied for 68th at the FedEx St. Jude Championship in Memphis, Tennessee, on the final day, missing out on progressing in the FedExCup Playoffs.

This provides the American ex-world No. 1 with extra time to recuperate from an upcoming surgery on his lingering left wrist issue, which has been trouble for him for the past 16 months, resulting in a decline in his performance.

"I need to get it operated on as soon as possible, and then I'll follow through with the recovery process," Spieth stated, as reported by the PGA Tour.

"If I don't have a compelling reason to rush back – and I don't – I'll probably just take it easy as long as I can," he continued.

Spieth, a three-time major champion whose last PGA Tour victory came in April 2022, has managed only three top-10 finishes this year and none in the last four months.

Throughout the campaign, he has failed to make the cut on eight occasions.

The wrist injury surfaced prior to last year's PGA Championship, when Spieth was aiming for a career grand slam. Despite his best attempts to heal the torn wrist sheath since then, he has now decided to undergo surgery and the estimated three-month recovery period.

"I kept avoiding making excuses for myself because it didn't hurt while I was swinging," Spieth said. "But it doesn't seem coincidental considering the timeframe and the consistent results being the same every week – so I'm quite optimistic.

"I think there's some sense of clarity in getting it done. There's also some uncertainty, and it's a bit scary. But if I can learn some patience – which isn't easy for me – then I believe I can return even stronger."

After missing out on progressing in the FedExCup Playoffs due to his poor performance, Spieth has more time to focus on his upcoming wrist surgery. With the surgery and subsequent recovery period, Spieth might not be able to participate in many sports-related activities for a while.
