After the closure** of Frankfurt Cathedral due to a water incursion in a rear vault, the city has given the all-clear. From Wednesday, the cathedral will be fully open again, as a city spokesperson announced. The cathedral master builder Lienemeyer and the restorer Klöckner reportedly found during an inspection that there is no longer any immediate danger from falling plaster parts. It is sufficient to erect a small barrier and observe it for several weeks.

The building was initially closed by the fire department after the water damage on Sunday. Services have since been held at St. Leonhard. The fire brigade initially pumped out around 500 litres of water from the vault using over 40 personnel and then removed the wet insulation.

According to the city, the search for the cause is still ongoing. A blocked downpipe is suspected. Therefore, downpipes and gutters will be cleaned as soon as possible. The extent of the damage is still unclear.

After identifying the source of the water incursion as a potentially blocked downpipe, the city plans to clean downpipes and gutters as a precautionary measure. Upon further inspection, it was discovered that the cathedral has undergone a significant water breakdown, leading to the need for a small barrier and observation for several weeks.
