Ford initiates the recall of 550,000 trucks due to a malfunction that allows for sudden downshifting.

These trucks equip six-speed gearboxes, and an unexpected shift to first gear at high speeds could lead to a swift deceleration or even loss of control by the driver. The trucks mentioned are older versions, specifically the 2014 models. The initial concerns about these vehicles prematurely shifting gears were brought to Ford's attention this year, as the company received multiple complaints about 2014 F-150s unexpectedly downshifting.

Interestingly, a similar issue was addressed by Ford in 2019, with the recall of around 1.2 million 2011-2013 F-150s. The underlying problem stems from a faulty communication between a speed sensor and a control module responsible for automatic transmission operation.

To remedy this issue, Ford dealerships will update the trucks' control module software without any charge to the owner. Owners can anticipate receiving letters from Ford in a few days about the recall, labeled as 24S37.
