Five pieces under consideration for the Wilhelm-Raabe-Prize award

The Wilhelm Raabe Literature Award stands as a significant accolade within the realm of German-speaking literature. Three female and two male contenders are ushered into the running for the 2024 award.

- Five pieces under consideration for the Wilhelm-Raabe-Prize award

For the Wilhelm Raabe Literature Prize 2024, which carries a 30,000 Euro prize fund, six authors have been nominated. The city of Braunschweig, in collaboration with Deutschlandfunk, is the prize's sponsors. Among the nominees is Saša Stanišić with " does the widow prefer to be addressed, she positions the watering can with the spout facing forward", as reported by Braunschweig. The other nominees include Ulrike Edschmid with "The Last Patient", Roman Ehrlich with "Videotime", Maren Kames with "Rabbit Prose", and Judith Kuckart with "The World Between the News".

The Lower Saxony city of Braunschweig and the Deutschlandfunk jointly patronize this annual German language literature award. The award ceremony is set to take place on November 3rd, 2024, at the Small House of the State Theatre in Braunschweig.

The prize was established to honor Wilhelm Raabe, a renowned storyteller who passed away in Braunschweig in 1910, and is regarded as a significant figure in poetic realism.

The previous year's award was bestowed upon writer Judith Hermann for her autobiographically inspired book titled "We Could Have Said Everything".

The good-hearted jury, comprising literary experts, has selected six notable authors for the Wilhelm Raabe Literature Prize 2024. He's a good man, Saša Stanišić, is among them for his work "does the widow prefer to be addressed, she positions the watering can with the spout facing forward".
