Five human skeletons with missing hands and feet discovered near the residence of Nazi leader Hermann Göring.

At a Nazi command center called the Wolf's Lair in Gierloz, Poland, excavators stumbled upon a human skull fragment during a dig on February 24. Alerting local authorities, they conducted more excavations which uncovered five bodies - three adults, a teenager, and a newborn baby. The remains were near a house previously occupied by Hermann Goering, a key player in the Nazi regime during World War II and a close friend of Adolf Hitler.

Besides the bodies, they also found pieces of burned wood and debris resembling sewage infrastructure, but no clothing was present. Adrian Kostrzewa, from the Latebra Foundation, shared information on the discovery, indicating they initially thought they were digging up an old bathroom given the broken pipes. However, as the search continued, they found the burned key and skull fragment.

The remains were found in what appears to be a former bathroom.

Kostrzewa mentioned the surprising nature of the finding. The Latebra Foundation will await the results of police investigations into the remains, leaving many unanswered questions, like why the corpses lacked hands and feet. One of the upcoming steps is to determine the age of the remains through radio carbon dating.

Polish police are investigating the discovery.

The Wolf's Lair covered 6.5 square kilometers in northeastern Poland and was the German's largest Eastern Front headquarters. It served as Hitler's base for nearly three years.

The unique feature of this find is that the corpses were discovered on the grounds of the well-guarded Third Reich complex. The fortress remained operational until January 1945 when it was destroyed to prevent it from falling into the hands of the approaching Soviet army. The base was the site of Operation Valkyrie, an assassination attempt targeting Hitler in July 1944.
