- Fire at Memminger Prison - Several injured
In a fire at the correctional facility (JVA) in Memmingen, Swabia, several people were lightly injured. A JVA employee initially noticed smoke coming from a detention cell, a police spokesperson reported. Although prison officers quickly extinguished the fire and evacuated the inmates, a 27-year-old and another inmate were lightly injured by the heavy smoke.
A dozen staff members also sustained injuries from the smoke. Some were examined in the hospital, but none suffered serious injuries, according to current investigations. An evacuation of the facility was not required. The police suspect that the 27-year-old deliberately set the fire in the cell.
The incident at the JVA in Memmingen led to other staff members being affected by the heavy smoke, resulting in minor injuries. Despite the initial suspicions of arson, further investigations revealed that no serious injuries were reported among the hospitalized staff members.
