- €900 fine for blockade in Kiel

For a blockade action on the federal highway 76 in the summer of 2023, the Regional Court of Kiel has convicted a so-called climate activist of joint coercion to a fine of 900 euros. The appeals chamber has overturned the verdict of the local court in this case, as a court spokesman said. The verdict is not yet final, the defendant and the public prosecutor's office can file an appeal within a week.

In the case in question, according to the Regional Court, it was about an action in Kiel on July 10, 2023. The local court in Kiel had acquitted the 27-year-old on May 10. The public prosecutor's office had lodged an appeal against this.

Two Blockade Actions

The group "Letzte Generation" had caused disruptions in commuter traffic on July 10, 2023 with two adhesive actions and a spontaneous demonstration in Kiel. According to earlier police reports, a total of ten people had glued themselves in the vicinity of the Holstein Stadium in the approach to the Westring as well as on the Kronshagener Way. Several patrol car crews were deployed and removed the participants from the streets. After 30 or 45 minutes, the blockades were ended, and the traffic jam dissipated.

The defendant, initially acquitted by the local court in Kiel for their involvement in the Regional Court of Kiel's case regarding the July 10 blockade action, now has the opportunity to appeal the overturned verdict by the appeals chamber. The Regional Court of Kiel was the presiding court for the original conviction of the climate activist for joint coercion, resulting in a fine of 900 euros.
