Eintracht Braunschweig wants to annoy the great ones too

In the previous season, the Brunswickers just about managed to avoid relegation from the second division by coming 15th. This time, they do not want a nervous season. A big name awaits them in the opening match.

Second-tier football club Eintracht Braunschweig faces a challenging task right from the start of the new season: "Big opponent, big name, big stadium," coach Daniel Scherning said ahead of Saturday's away game (8:30 PM/Sky and Sport1) against Schalke 04.

Last season, the Lower Saxony team narrowly avoided relegation, finishing 15th in the table. This time, they aim to make it less close. Scherning said, "We want to manage this year to annoy the big teams." The 40-year-old is aware, however, that it might take time for the team to gel, given the 12 new signings.

For the game in Gelsenkirchen, goalkeeper Tino Casali and striker Sidi Sané will be missing due to knee injuries sustained during pre-season. Consequently, the Braunschweig side will continue to keep an eye out for potential transfers.

3,500 fans will accompany Eintracht to Gelsenkirchen

In the week leading up to the season opener, the coach focused more on his own team than the opposition. He believes that the pre-season games have little bearing on the upcoming match against Schalke. Nevertheless, the Braunschweig team can look forward to strong fan support, with 3,500 Eintracht fans set to travel to Gelsenkirchen.

Despite the absence of key players Tino Casali and Sidi Sané due to injuries, Eintracht Braunschweig is determined to cause upsets in higher-tier football, as coach Daniel Scherning mentioned, aiming to "annoy the big teams." In the upcoming Sports1-broadcasted game against Schalke 04, the lower-tier club will rely on strong fan support, with 3,500 supporters making the journey to Gelsenkirchen for the challenge.
