- Drunk driver seriously injured in hit and run

A drunk driver crashed into a car at high speed on the A5 near Offenburg (Ortenau district), seriously injuring himself and lightly injuring three others, all of whom were taken to hospitals. Initial estimates suggest damages of around 50,000 euros. The car of the suspected culprit had license plates that did not match the vehicle. The car had previously been taken off the road due to lack of insurance. An alcohol test on the driver showed a reading of two promille.

As a result of the rear-end collision on the middle lane, another vehicle with four people on board was hit. This vehicle collided with a concrete wall in the middle of the highway, injuring two passengers lightly.

The vehicle of the suspected culprit and the first car hit veered off to the right and crashed into the safety barrier. The driver of the hit car was also lightly injured.

Upon further investigation, it was discovered that the driver's erratic behavior leading up to the accident was due to alcohol consumption. Unfortunately, such incidents of accidents caused by drunk driving are all too common.
