Celebration of democratic values. - Dreyer discusses Hamburg Castle as a representation of democratic history.

Malu Dreyer, the Minister President of Rhineland-Palatinate, has hailed Hambach Castle as an emblematic representation of German and European democratic history. She emphasized its significance in a speech during the Festival of Democracy in Neustadt/Weinstraße, saying, "It's a distinct and iconic symbol of the accomplishments and sacrifices made by those individuals who waged wars for democracy and freedom."

Dreyer went on to note various milestones in the region's democratic history, including the Mainz and Bergzabern Republics of 1792/93, the Hambach Festival of 1832, and the Koblenz Knights' Overthrow Conference of 1948. She saw Rhineland-Palatinate as a "hotspot" of democratic culture and took the state's role as a "land of democracy" very seriously.

Michael Ebling, the Minister of the Interior, mirrored Dreyer's feelings about the castle. "Hambach Castle has been an emblem of the commitment to democracy and the dedication to a tolerant and open society for nearly two centuries," Ebling stated. Amid threats to democracy, Ebling urged the importance of standing up for it and staying united.

The castle holds a unique place in history as the birthplace of freedom. It was at the Hambach Festival in 1832 where tens of thousands converged to demand freedom, national unity, and civil rights.
