- Direction of expressive performances through artistic sculpture undertakings in 2027.
Munster and the Regional Association of Westphalia-Lippe are set to unveil the mastermind behind Sculpture Projects 2027 on a Wednesday. This marks the debut of the 6th edition of the exhibition, making an appearance without its originator, Kasper König. Sadly, König bid farewell to this world on August 8, at the ripe age of 80. König, renowned exhibition organizer and ex-director of Museum Ludwig (from 2000 to 2012), had hinted at his retirement after wrapping up the 5th edition in 2017.
König was the one who converted Munster into a public canvas for contemporary art back in 1977. The Regional Association of Westphalia-Lippe and the city of Munster, serving as organizers of this biennial outdoor exhibition, anticipate the global art community and a sea of visitors from far and wide. The 2017 edition witnessed an unprecedented number of visitors, reaching approximately 600,000 guests.
