- Different concentrates on nationwide demonstrations
In Saxony-Anhalt, the theme of the ongoing Monday protests has evolved. Issues like the COVID-19 situation, resource shortages, and immigration are no longer the primary concerns, as per a report from the Interior Ministry in Magdeburg in response to an inquiry. Now, discussions revolve around peace, the Ukraine war, critiques of current politics, and the interpretation of democratic rights. Furthermore, there are unspecific acts of protest.
Typically, throughout the first half of the year, the attendance in Saxony-Anhalt fluctuated between 200 and 1,900 individuals. Occasionally, over 20 gatherings occurred per week. During the summer months, attendance varied between approximately 600 and 850 people. In early 2022, more than 18,000 people participated in the protests in Saxony-Anhalt, and in autumn 2022, this figure surpassed 14,000.
As per the reports, there was an increase in attendance up until the end of May due to the integration with farmers' protests. However, since then, the participation of farmers in the Monday gatherings has reduced significantly. Gatherings organized by farmers or farmers' organizations are not accounted for in the count.
The Monday demonstrations in Saxony-Anhalt recently shifted focus, with peace, the Ukraine war, criticisms of current politics, and interpretations of democratic rights becoming the main topics. Despite this change, a significant number of individuals continue to participate in the Monday demonstration on Mondays.
