Deputies reveal footage of a Florida woman being questioned about allegedly killing her neighbor by shooting through a door.
A 58-year-old white woman named Lorincz is accused of shooting her black neighbor Ajike "AJ" Owens on June 2, 2023. She claims she was afraid for her life after Owens knocked on her door and disturbed her peace as several neighborhood kids were playing near her house. In a video released by the Marion County Sheriff's Office, she recalled Owens saying "I'm gonna kill you." She expressed fear for her life and said she was terrorized by the knocking and screaming. However, detectives had not heard anyone else talking about Owens saying she wanted to kill Lorincz. Family members of Owens stated that Lorincz had harassed her and her children and used racial slurs in the past. Lorincz admitted to using slurs against children in the past. She also admitted searching online for information about self-defense laws, focusing on stand your ground, after the incident occurred. Detectives suggested that her actions were not reasonable. Lorincz did not deny the presence of fears but expressed surprise at the time it felt like. She also wrote a note for Owens' children while waiting for deputies to take her to the station. Upon arrest, she refused to be taken into custody, shouting "I can't do this," and "I don't care. Kill me!" Trial is scheduled to commence on June 17. Owens' lawyer, Amanda Sizemore, has been contacted for comment.
Here is another version:
A 58-year-old white woman by the name of Lorincz stands accused of manslaughter with a firearm and assault, following a shooting incident involving her black neighbor, Ajike "AJ" Owens, who had been knocking on her door on June 2, 2023. From the interrogation video publicized by the Marion County Sheriff's Office, Lorincz is heard repeatedly claiming that she was petrified during the altercation, having recalled Owens saying "I'm gonna kill you." Consequently, she feared for her life and perceived this threat to be imminent. Detectives maintained that none of the individuals they interviewed mentioned Owens saying she intended to kill Lorincz. Instead, they claimed that Owens had invited Lorincz to step outside and resolve an issue between them.
Further insight into the situation was provided by the Owens family, who shared their claim that Lorincz harassed AJ and her children by hurling racial slurs. Additionally, Lorincz admitted in her arrest affidavit to using derogatory language against neighborhood children. Investigators questioned Lorincz about her search for Florida self-defense laws and the "stand your ground" concept, which she had inquired about during the same day of the shooting, perhaps due to the topic's widespread presence on Facebook. She expressed that she wasn't looking for loopholes to justify her actions but merely wanted to understand the implications.
Before Lorincz was taken into custody, she was found to have unreasonably responded to the situation, as she discharged a firearm through a closed door in a very short span of just two minutes after dialing 911 for police assistance. Despite the brevity of this period, Lorincz considered it longer than it actually was. Her resistance to arrest was evident as she repeatedly stated "I can't do this" and called for her death. Eventually, she did get up and was handcuffed. The trial will commence June 17. CNN reached out to Lorincz's legal representative, Amanda Sizemore, for further comment.
