Delaware's Democratic party supports Sarah McBride's campaign to become the first openly transgender individual to serve in the United States Congress.

McBride emerged victorious in the primary on Tuesday, surpassing opponents Earl Cooper and Elias Weir, both of whom failed to garner any campaign funds. Cooper is relatively green in the political scene, while Weir garnered a mere 0.6% of votes during a 2016 congressional primary.

On the other hand, McBride gathered an impressive $2,998,000 in donations nationwide. McBride gained notoriety at the 2016 Democratic National Convention as the first openly transgender individual to address a major party convention in the US.

McBride now prepares to face either Donyale Hall, a successful businesswoman, ex-Air Force Gulf War veteran, or James Whalen IIII, a retired state police officer cum construction firm owner from Millsboro, who are engaged in a GOP primary battle. Since 2010, the Democrats have maintained control over this seat.

In the wake of her primary victory, McBride's political platform and strategies are of considerable interest to many. Regardless of who emerges victorious in the GOP primary, McBride's political journey and potential impact on the district's politics are topics of ongoing discussion.
