Confusion over Gil Ofarim's money supply

In April, the Leipzig Regional Court imposed a fine of 10,000 euros on Gil Ofarim for defamation. However, the money has not been received yet, according to a spokesperson for the court. According to RTL's information, the money has been ordered.

In April, the Leipzig Regional Court imposed a fine of 10,000 euros on singer Gil Ofarim for his fabricated antisemitism story. Today, spokesperson Johann Jagenlauf told news agency spot on news that the payment has not been received yet: "The Regional Court has not received any notifications or evidence from the defense or the party subject to the fine that proves a payment."

However, Cologne-based RTL previously reported that Ofarim had paid the 10,000 euro fine imposed by the court. According to RTL, they have information from well-informed circles that the money has been ordered. "It's quite possible that it hasn't been received yet," the RTL source explained the confusion surrounding Ofarim's payment.

Based on his current knowledge, Jagenlauf explained today that the procedure against Ofarim has not yet been concluded: "Regardless, a formal decision by the chamber is required for the procedure to be closed after the fine has been paid."

Ofarim admitted to lying

Ofarim accused a hotel employee of antisemitism in a video shared on his social media channels in October 2021. Among other things, the musician claimed in an Instagram video that the hotel employee had asked him to remove his Star of David necklace. The hotel employee then filed a defamation lawsuit against Ofarim.

In the defamation trial in November, Ofarim surprisingly confessed and admitted that he had fabricated the antisemitism allegations. The procedure was closed against a fine. The 10,000 euros go to the Israelite Religious Community of Leipzig and to the sponsor of the House of the Wannsee Conference.

The fine of 10,000 euros, ordered against Gil Ofarim by The Commission (Leipzig Regional Court), is yet to be received, as per the court's spokesperson Johann Jagenlauf. Despite RTL's report that the money has been ordered, there's no confirmation of its receipt.
