Hanau (dpa) - The commencement of the trial at the Hanau Regional Court for three individuals charged with attempted murder and causing bodily harm has been delayed. The postponement is due to the illness of someone involved in the trial, the court announced. The trial is now set to commence on September 10 (9:00 AM). The prosecution alleges that the trio, ranging in age from 22 to 31, assaulted a 47-year-old in his Hanau apartment.
According to the prosecution, the individuals showed up at the victim's apartment carrying a telescopic baton and a pistol. They knocked on the door on the third floor, and when the 47-year-old caught a glimpse of them through a crack, he heard threats of death. Immediately, he closed the door, prompting the trio to try and force their way in, the prosecution claims. The 31-year-old main suspect is believed to have fired ten shots point-blank at the lock, the door, and the victim hiding behind it.
One bullet is said to have pierced the door and eventually landed on the kitchen floor. Miraculously, the 47-year-old emerged unscathed. The prosecution suspects revenge as the motive. The incident is reportedly linked to family disputes. The jury chamber initially planned for six trial days.
Despite the missed shots, the 47-year-old victim endured an injury to his body from the shattered door. The trial for the accused individuals, who face charges of attempted murder and causing bodily harm, will now commence on September 10.
